About Dr. K K Talwar

Dr. Kewal Kishan Talwar is a well?recognized Interventional Cardiologist with more than 45 years of professional experience. He performed the first implantation of Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) therapy in South Asia and was featured in the LIMCA Book of World Records in 1997. He is also credited with introducing Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy in India, which is also listed in the LIMCA Book of World Records. Dr. Talwar's work on Cardiac arrhythmia helped develop it as a specialty in India and developed the Heart failure and Heart transplant program at AIIMS. After completing his MBBS from Punjab Univ. in 1973, he also achieved an MD (Medicine) from the Post Graduate Inst. of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in 1976 and a DM (Cardiology) from PGIMER in 1989. He is a a fellow of the American Coll. of Cardiology (FACC), the Academy of Medical Sciences (FAMS), a fellow of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), and FINA. He is a former president of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) and a former chairman of the Medical Council of India. He is a former head of the Department of Cardiology at AIIMS, New Delhi, and Director of PGIMER, Chandigarh. Before Joining PSRI Hosp., he was Chairman of the Cardiology Department at Max Super Speciality Hosp., Saket. His work has served as documented in several publications, including 240 articles and 270 abstracts, in various peer-reviewed medical journals. He has also contributed 15 chapters to various medical texts. Dr. Talwar has served as a part of the Patron of the Heart Rhythm Society of India and President of Heart Failure Society of India (2009-2012), President of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS – 2009-2012), President of the International Society of Heart Research (Indian Section), part of the Inst. Body, Sree Chitra Inst. of Medical Sciences (SCIMS), Thiruvananthapuram, part of Jawahar Lal Inst. of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry, and a Member All India Inst. of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

Awards

Dr B. C. Roy accolade, the highest Indian accolade in the medical category. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honor of the Padma Bhushan, in 2006, for his contributions to medicine.
