Dr. Vijay Kohli is an esteemed Cardiac Surgeon with more than 43 years of professional experience. He focuses on heart failure management, ventricular assist devices (VADs), heart transplantation, and ventricular aneurysm repairs. A pioneer in coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) on a beating heart in Kathmandu, Nepal, he has performed over 10,000 cardiac surgeries. He contributed significantly to advancements in surgical techniques, such as the Dors procedure for ventricular aneurysm repairs and the septal exclusion technique for mitral valve repair. Dr. Kohli collaborated with leading figures in the field, including Professor Randas Batista in Brazil, Professor Hertzer at Berlin Heart Inst., and Professor George Wieselthaler at Vienna General Hosp., Austria. After completing his MBBS from Government Medical Coll. and Associated Hosp. in 1981, he also achieved an MS (General Surgery) from Government Medical Coll. and Associated Hosp. in 1985 and an MCh (Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery) from Post Graduate Inst. of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, 1991. He also received a Fellowship from St. Luke and Roosevelt Hosp. Medical Centre, New York, USA, in 1995 and from the Indian Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons in 2003. Dr. Kohli achieved milestones, including the first coronary artery bypass surgery at Jammu Medical Coll. in 2001 and the first CABG on a beating heart in Kathmandu, Nepal, in 2002.
